Injustice done to Roman script : Adv. Radharao Gracias

DKA marks Fr. Freddy J. Da Costa Memorial Day : Gulab awards presented

Margao: It is Roman script using Christians from Salcete in large numbers who have faced the problems during language agitation but due place was not given to the Roman script of Konkani in the Official Language Bill. Christians were used for the purpose.  Those who sacrificed their lives during language agitation were Christians.  They were chargesheeted and I had represented for about 70 suits against them.  Konkani is the only language of Goa and I had moved a Private Member Bill in the Assembly to give recognition to Romi Konkani, said Adv. Radharao Gracias, Ex. M.L.A. of Nuvem on the occasion of 64^th Birth anniversary of Fr. Freddy J. Costa. The function has been jointly organized by Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) and Fr. Freddy J da Costa Memorial Trust.

Others present on the dais were Calangute M.L.A. Michael Lobo, DKA President Tomazinho Cardozo, Vice President Fr. Conceicao D Silva, Secretary Vincy Quadros, Heritage Activist Prof. Prajal Sakhardande and Trust President Willy Goes.   Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo, senior tiatrist Jessie Dias and noted Konknni writer, novelist and folk artiste Jess Fernandes were presented the Gulab Awards for 2017.

            Michael Lobo is the “Gulab’s Personality of the year’, Jessie Dias is selected as “Gulab Tiatrist and Jess Fernandes is the ‘Gulab Writer of the year’.   The awards were presented by Chief Guest Radharao Gracias.

Fr. Freddy J da Costa Memorial Lecture on the subject ‘Gõycho Ithas Ani Daiz: Purvil’lea Kalla Thaun 2017 Meren’ was delivered by Prof Prajal Sakhardande, a  heritage activit.

Michael Lobo thanked the organizers for choosing him for the personality of the year award. “ The language issue of Goa needs participation of parents and a patient hearing of all the stakeholders. I will make sure that the issue is solved”, he said. Tomazinho Cardozo also spoke on the occasion. 

            Fr. Silva welcomed the gathering while Willy Goes proposed vote of thanks.  Function was compered by Vincy Quadros. It ended with national anthem.  Various personalities from various walks of life attended the function.
